Detecting acute reperfusion myocardial hemorrhage with CMR: a translational study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Hemorrhage is a frequent hallmark of large acute reperfused myocardial infarctions (rMI). Recently, there has been a growing interest in CMR for noninvasive detection of hemorrhage in rMI. While T2*and T2-weighted CMR have been used for this purpose, there is a lack of consensus on which of these methods is the most appropriate and reliable. We investigated the relative abilities of T2 and T2* CMR for detecting hemorrhage in rMI in a canine model and patients.

Contribution of reperfusion hemorrhage to T2 and T2* CMR in the quantification of hemorrhage extent and area-at-risk after acute myocardial infarction
Background In acute myocardial infarction (AMI), reperfusion injury is often associated with hemorrhage and microvascular obstruction (MVO), which are independent predictors of poor patient outcomes. T2 and T2* cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) approaches have been instrumental in detecting hemorrhage; however, the relative sensitivity of each of these measures remains to be investigated....
متن کاملClinical parameters associated with myocardial hemorrhage in reperfused acute myocardial infarction — a cardiovascular MR study
Background Late reperfusion of acutely ischemic myocardium may result in intramyocardial hemorrhage that has been described as a contributor to reperfusion injury. In patients with reperfused acute myocardial infarction (MI), the presence of myocardial hemorrhage can be detected by T2*-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). This study aimed to identify clinical parameters associated ...
متن کاملEffect of myocardial hemorrhage on functional recovery in patients with reperfused acute myocardial infarction
Background Microvascular obstruction (MO) is one of the most important predictors of adverse outcome after reperfusion therapy in acute myocardial infarction (MI). Myocardial hemorrhage has been described as a contributor to reperfusion injury. Due to a lack of appropriate imaging techniques, the consequences of reperfusion hemorrhage have not been studied. The purpose of this study is to inves...
متن کاملRole of iron chelation in hemorrhagic myocardial infarction: a quantitative CMR study
Background It has been speculated that iron chelation may be beneficial in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and that early treatment can limit ischemia-reperfusion injury and also reduce infarct size. However, the role of iron chelation in hemorrhagic myocardial infarction, where it would be most suited, has not yet been explored. Reperfusion hemorrhage results in accumulation of iron degradat...
متن کاملDimethyl Sulfoxide Reduces Microvascular Obstruction and Intramyocardial Hemorrhage in a Porcine Ischemia-Reperfusion Model
Background: Microvascular obstruction (MVO) and Intramyocardial hemorrhage (IMH) are associated with myocardial reperfusion injury and recognized as predictors of adverse left ventricular remodeling in acute myocardial infarction. The pathophysiology of reperfusion injury is characterized by release of reactive oxygen species and inflammation. We investigated whether post-ischemic reperfusion w...
